WACO, Texas -The No. 25 University of Kentucky women’s tennis doubles pair of Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi make their NCAA Championships debut Thursday in the first round.

The UK pair, ranked No. 25 in the latest ITA rankings, opens play in the 32-team national championship field at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday at Baylor’s Hurd Tennis Center. Adachi and Sutjiadi will play No. 12 Kelsey Laurente and Viktoriya Lushkova of Oklahoma State.

Adachi, a freshman from Tokyo, Japan, and Sutjiadi, a sophomore from Jakarta, Indonesia, are 6-6 as UK’s top doubles pair in 2015. Since being paired together midway through the 2015 season, they are 6-3 in SEC play.

Adachi and Sutjiadi are the 13th doubles team in program history to qualify for the NCAA Championships. 2015 marks the third consecutive season UK has had an individual qualifier at the national championship event. Last season, Nadia Ravita qualified in singles and Cece Witten and Caitlin McGraw earned a doubles bid.

The winner of Thursday’s first round will advance to the round of 16 on Friday. They will meet the winner of No. 5 California vs. No. 21 Georgia Tech.

Making her first NCAA Championships appearance, Sutjiadi earned a major award on Tuesday, two days before competition commenced. She won the prestigious NCAA Elite 89 award, recognizing the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA among participants at this year’s NCAA Championships. Majoring in mathematical economics, Sutjiadi owns a 4.0 GPA.
