Aldila Sutjiadi Wins NCAA Elite 89 Award

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s tennis sophomore Aldila Sutjiadi won the prestigious NCAA Elite 89 award on Tuesday at the 2015 NCAA Championships.
A native of Jakarta, Indonesia, Sutjiadi was recognized for having the highest cumulative GPA among student-athletes participating at this year’s NCAA Championships. Majoring in mathematical economics, Sutjiadi owns a 4.0 GPA.
“I am very honored and excited to receive this award,” Sutjiadi said. “I am thankful for Tiffany Hayden, our academic advisor, Misha, our GA and all the tutoring staff in CATS. They have provided the best resources for me to be successful in the classroom. Also, I want to say thank you to my coaches and teammates that have been supporting me on and off the court each and every day.”
The Elite 89 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s 89 championships. The award was founded by the NCAA to recognize the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
“I am thrilled that Aldila has been recognized for her academic effort,” UK head coach Carlos Drada said. “We ask everyone to give 100 percent in the classroom and on the court, and it is exciting to see that Aldila has been honored on a national stage like this. She is very deserving of this award.”
The award is the second major accolade of the season for the sophomore. On April 22, she was named to the conference’s Second Team for the second consecutive season.
Sutjiadi will compete at the NCAA Championships with freshman Mami Adachi in doubles. The third consecutive season UK has qualified at least one individual for the NCAA Championships, Sutjiadi and Adachi will open play on May 21.
