Snyder in Contention, McDaniel Moves Up Leaderboard

LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior David Snyder remains in contention for a spot in the NCAA Championship, while freshman Tyler `Chip’ McDaniel advanced on the leaderboard on day two of the NCAA Regional in Lubbock, Texas hosted by Texas A&M on Friday.
Snyder currently sits in a tie for 22nd overall after going 1-under par through 36 holes of competition. He is seven shots off the overall individual leader and a mere one shot back from the second player appearing as an individual.
UK’s junior from Somerset, Ky., fired a 4-over par, 75, in the second round of play on a rain-soaked day at The Rawls Course. Play was delayed four and a half hours due to severe rain in the area overnight. After charting eight birdies in his opening round, the playing conditions hindered low scores on day two as Snyder managed two birdies on the afternoon.
Sitting just one stroke off of Tulsa’s Matt Mabery, Snyder is very much in contention for a spot as an individual in the NCAA Championship. The top two individual players either appearing as an individual or not a member of one of the five advancing teams from the Lubbock Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 29-June 3 at The Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida.
McDaniel advanced on the leaderboard during the second day of play in his first career NCAA event. McDaniel scored a 1-over par, 72, and is 3-over par for the tournament and in a tie for 46th overall. The Manchester, Ky., native played the back nine at even par while birding his final hole of the day.
Competition at The Rawls Course resumes on Saturday with another par-71 day playing at 7,349 yards. Both Wildcats will open their rounds off the No. 10 hole on Saturday beginning around 9 a.m. CT.
Texas Tech Alumnus Jerry S. Rawls made it possible for the University to have its own territory by donating $8.6 million toward the total cost of approximately $14-15 million in 2001 and the course was then named for him.
Completed in September 2003, the 270-acre parcel, located at the northernmost point of the campus proper, features an 18-hole championship-level course with a 60-acre driving range as well as pitching and chipping areas. The 7,100-yard golf course has very undulating fairways, beautiful bent grass greens and many deep bunkers.Dedicated facilities for both golf teams existing, including collegiate-exclusive pitching and chipping areas and an indoor facility with three hitting bays, one each for the men and the women, both featuring the best video technology possible.
