LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky women’s golfer Sarah Harris has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced Monday. 

Harris, a native of Hermitage, Tenn., has been actively involved in UK’s backpack program with God’s Pantry this season, filling backpacks with food supplies and delivering them to local elementary schools. The junior has helped coordinate the athletic department’s blanket project, where Kentucky student-athletes make blankets for UK Children’s Hospital patients. She has also volunteered for Salvation Army bell ringing on multiple occasions during the holiday season to raise money for homeless families.

With a 4.0 grade-point average in the classroom, Harris has been a member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll in each of the last five semesters. She made the Women’s Golf Coach Association All-American Scholars Team in 2013-14, the SEC Honor Roll in 2013-14, the SEC First Year Honor Roll in 2012-13, and has been a member of the UK Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since 2013.

Harris just completed her junior year with a 76.0 stroke average, the third-best mark on a team that made a fifth straight NCAA regional appearance in 2014-15. Playing in nine tournaments this season, Harris posted two top-20 finishes, including a tie for 14th place at the Bryan National Collegiate in early April.

The annual SEC Community Service Team recognizes the superior community service efforts of the league’s student-athletes. The SEC Community Service Team consists of one student-athlete from each SEC institution, as nominated by the school’s personnel. The SEC names a community service team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports.
