Seniors Shine at Swansong Kentucky Relays

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky track and field claimed 15 event victories, seven of them won by seniors, to conclude a feel-good Kentucky Relays, the Wildcats’ final home meet of the 2015 season.
“For what we thought would just be a swansong for so many good seniors we he had a really good meet,” UK head coach Edrick Floréal said. “Overall good marks. Dezerea Bryant in her first 100m race of the year ran a good time into the wind. A lot of people had PRs. Daje Pugh finally is headed in the right direction. I couldn’t be happier.”
Senior Brad Szypka used an outdoor-season best to win the Kentucky Relays shot put with a mark of 63’11.50″/19.49m.
Senior Dezerea Bryant ran what tied for the second fastest 200-meter time in the Southeastern Conference this season with a 22.97. The time ranks No. 5 in the nation this year.
Bryant ran 11.52 into a -1.6 wind in her 2015 100m debut to finish as the top collegian. Senior Kendra Harrison ran 11.64, while classmate Dominique Booker finished in 11.70.
Senior Raymond Dykstra won the javelin with what admittedly for him was a pedestrian mark of 233’2″/71.08m.
Michael Patterson Jr. jumped to a personal best on Senior Day. He won the Kentucky Relays with a mark of 50’01.25″/15.27m (+2.0).
Senior Keffri Neal won the mile in 4:04.54. Lou Styles ran 4:05.70 for a second-place showing.
Senior Leah Nugent won the Kentucky Relays 100m hurdles in 13.20. Jacklyn Howellwais was second in 13.51.
The 4x400m relay of Jasmine Mitchell, Daje Pugh, Ariah Graham and Angelica Whaley won in 3:44.01, but the story was the fact that seniors Whaley and Morganne Phillips — who ran on a team composed of fellow-senior Nugent, Alisha Adair and Jacklyn Howell — finished side-by-side.
Jasmine Mitchell won the Kentucky Relays in 53.60, a time .01 off her PR.
Katy Kunc won the mile in 4:59.18.
Daje Pugh won the Kentucky Relays 400m hurdles in a PR time of 59.06.
In her 800m debut, Ariah Graham ran 2:07.21 for the win. The time is the 10th-fastest in school history, and ranks 27th in the NCAA East region.
Charles Moushey cleared a PR in the pole vault 17’2.75″/5.25m. No. 2 mark in UK history.
Rebecca Famurewa won two events, the discus and hammer throw. She won the hammer with a mark of 205’10″/62.74m and the discus at 177’/53.94m.
Adriana Brown won the shot put with a mark of 50’4″/15.34m.
Justin Kretchmer cleared 6’10.75″/2.10m to win the Kentucky Relays high jump at a height .025 inches off his collegiate best.
Kentucky alumnus Andrew Evans won the Kentucky Relays discus with a throw of 196’10″/ 60.00m. UK volunteer assistant coach Alex Ziegler won the hammer throw with a mark of 241’8″/73.65m. UK alum Andy Fryman placed second.
Nick Anderson ran 13.74 to finish as the top collegian, second overall, in the Kentucky Relays 110m hurdles. He was .02 off his PR.
