SAN DIEGO and LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Rebecca Famurewa, Adrianna Brown and Alisha Adair all picked up outright wins in open sections, while Raymond Dykstra produced another solid javelin performance, on Saturday.
Kentucky’s top throwers competed at the University of California-San Diego’s Triton Invitational; while a select group Wildcats competed at the Bellarmine Classic.
Multiple Wildcats turned in strong performances in what were likely the final regular-season road competitions this season. Kentucky will host the Kentucky Relays next weekend before turning attention to postseason with the Southeastern Conference Championships now just two weeks away.
Famurewa continued her strong weekend by winning the Triton Open discus (181’5″/55.29m) after she threw a season best Thursday.
Ray Dykstra placed second, but was the top collegian in the Triton Invitational javelin with a throw of 241’0.01″/73.46m.
Adrianna Brown won the Triton Open Shot Put with a PR 50’0.79″/15.48m.
Bradley Szypka finished as the No. 2 collegian, and seventh overall, in the Triton Invitational shot put with a throw of 61.22 feet/18.66m
At the Bellarmine Classic, Alisha Adair won the 400m in her outdoor season debut at the distance with a time of 56.49.
Kendra Harrison took the NCAA lead in the 100-meter hurdles with a winning time of 12.62 (+0.9) at Florida’s Tom Jones Memorial Invitational on Friday.
Harrison became the sixth fastest collegian ever, with a time, which tied for the ninth fastest in NCAA history.
In San Diego at the Triton Invitational, Famurewa produced a PR hammer throw 208’0.825″/ 63.65m to finish third on Friday.
On Thursday Robert Sandlin used a monster kick down the stretch to win the 5,000 meters at the 121st running of the University of Pennsylvania Relays Carnival on Thursday at Franklin Field with a time of 13:51.69.
Thursday was also a day for season-best throws by Kentucky Wildcats competing at the Olympic Training Center’s Elite Meet in Chula Vista, California.
Famurewa reached the best discus mark since her freshman season, hitting 186 feet 9 inches 56.93 meters to place second. The mark ranks seventh in the nation this season.
Madison Jacobs threw her collegiate best in the discus, 184’2″/56.14m to finish third. That mark improved Jacobs season ranking to No. 9 nationally.
Szypka threw a season-best 63’0.75″/19.22m in the shot put to place second.
