LEXINGTON, Ky. — Zoe Collins, a two-time champion with success at the international level, has signed a national letter of intent to play golf at the University of Kentucky, head coach Golda Johansson Borst announced Monday.
Collins will join the Wildcats as a freshman starting in the fall of 2015.
“We are excited to announce the signing of Zoe,” Borst said. “She is a motivated and determined individual as well as a great student. We really like what Zoe will bring to this team. She is a strong player, has a solid work ethic and she bleeds blue. I believe she will be a great addition to our team, and we can’t wait for her to get here in August.”
A native of Galway, Ireland, Collins brings a championship résumé to Kentucky. A two-time winner prior to college, Collins brings a game collegiate-ready game after an accomplished high-school career.
Competing for IMG Academy at the junior level, Collins captured her first title at the Berkshire Girls Championship in 2014 before winning the IMG Golf Tour Laurel Oak Country Club in 2015. She also placed third at the Stoke Park Ladies Open in 2014.
At the international level, Collins has played against some of the world’s best up-and-coming talent. She tied for 19th place at the 2014 Irish Girls Open, reached the semifinals of the 2014 Irish Girls Close and finished in 37th at the English Girls Open in 2014.
A member of National Honor Society and a participant for Hope For Homes Romania while in high school, Collins will be one of three Wildcats born outside the United States when she enrolls at UK in August, joining current Wildcats Cylia Damerau (Cham, Switzerland) and Isabelle Johansson (Sala Sweden).
“I chose Kentucky because of the amazing coaching staff, the team and the facilities,” Collins said. “I felt that I would not only be able to improve my golf but be a part of something much larger.”
