LEXINGTON, Ky. — After notching a win and a save in the series with Tennessee, left-hander Zach Logue has been named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

A native of Mason, Ohio, Logue is the second Wildcats to earn a win and a save in a series win over an SEC foe in 2015, as Spencer Jack turned the feat vs. Mississippi State to earn SEC Pitcher of the Week accolades. Logue is the fifth UK standout to earn SEC weekly honors in 2015, as Jack, Kyle Cody (Pitcher of the Week), Kyle Barrett (Player of the Week) and Riley Mahan (Freshman of the Week) have each earned accolades.

Logue’s heroics in the series sweep of the Vols led UK to its first home sweep over UT in program history and its first SEC sweep since 2012. Logue picked up a save in Kentucky’s series-clinching win over Tennessee and returned a day later to work 2.2 shutout innings in relief to earn the win to finish off the series sweep.

In the second game of the set, Logue entered in the ninth inning with runners on the corners and no outs in a three-run game. He got a comebacker to the mound, spinning to start a 1-4-3 double play to quell a rally and pick up his first career save. Logue came on in the finale as the first man out of the bullpen in relief of spot-starter Andrew Nelson, hurling 2.2 frames, scattering two hits and one walk, striking out two on 41 pitches. On the year, Logue has tossed 28 innings in 13 games and two starts, saving one and sporting a 2-1 record and a 4.50 ERA.

Kentucky (22-16, 8-9 SEC) will return to action with a Tuesday non-league matchup with Xavier at 6:30 p.m., before traveling to No. 6 Florida for a three-game series at McKethan Stadium.
