COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The No. 21 Kentucky women’s tennis team lost its regular season finale, 4-0 at Texas A&M on Sunday morning.
The Wildcats (15-11, 6-7 Southeastern Conference) were without their No. 1 singles player, Aldila Sutjiadi, who suffered an injury in Thursday’s match at LSU. With each UK player moving up a court, the Aggies (15-14, 11-2 SEC) were too much for the shorthanded Wildcats.
The loss concludes regular-season play. Kentucky will join the rest of the league at the SEC Tournament, April 14-19 in Columbia, S.C. UK is expected to receive the No. 8 seed in the tournament. A top-10 seed earns Kentucky a first round bye, and the Wildcats will open play on April 16.
Sunday’s action began with singles, and doubles were not played.
Making her second appearance of the season and the first in SEC competition, Kate Lanier fell at No. 6 singles to Anna Mamalat, 6-1, 6-0 to give A&M a 1-0 lead.
On court No. 2, Kelsey Dieters was making her first appearance at No. 2 singles in SEC action and lost to NO. 52 Rutuja Bhosale, 6-3, 6-1.
In a matchup of two ranked players, No. 66 Nadia Ravita fell to No. 39 Rachel Pierson, 6-2, 6-2 to give the Aggies a 3-0 lead.
Stephanie Fox was also competing for the first time in SEC play and the third time this season, and lost at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-1 to give Texas A&M the 4-0 win.
When play concluded, Mami Adachi held a 5-4 lead in the second set at No. 3 singles after she dropped the opener, 6-3. On court four, Kirsten Lewis had tied the second set at 4-4 after she lost the first, 6-3 to No. 45 Saska Gavrilovska.
