No. 20 UK Takes Down Another Ranked Opponent in No. 38 Arkansas

March 20, 2015

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 20 University of Kentucky women’s team improved to 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the Southeastern Conference with a 4-0 win over No. 38 Arkansas on Friday.

The win gave the Wildcats their fifth victory over a ranked opponent this season and the sixth shutout of the year.

“It was a great day for us,” UK head coach Carlos Drada said. “Arkansas is a very good team and is well coached. The most important thing we did was that the players were very urgent. They remembered what we worked on during the week and we were able to execute better than any other match that we’ve played in all year. This is the best match we’ve played so far. It’s a good thing to do right now in the middle of the season because it shows that we’re going in the right direction mentally and physically. We’re hoping to use this as a positive for the matches to come.”

Arkansas came into today’s match with a record of 12-7 overall and 2-3 in SEC. However, the Razorbacks also had momentum after an upset win over No. 36 South Carolina in Fayetteville.

Kentucky opened up play on the outdoor courts for doubles with Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi taking the first match, 8-4, over Arkansas. Next to strike was the duo of Kelsey Dieters and Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff to seal the doubles point for the Wildcats.

After moving to the indoor courts for singles, Adachi, the three-time SEC Freshman of the Week, won in a dominant performance over Arkansas’s Oleksandra Shkorupeieva, 6-1, 6-3. Adachi has not lost a match since the spring season opener on January 13 at Hawaii.

Sutjiadi would add to the 2-0 lead with a win of her own. She won, 6-4, 6-4, against Mackenzie Craft of Arkansas at No. 2 singles.

Shortly after, No. 85 Nadia Ravita took down No. 117 Yuliya Lysa of Arkansas to clinch the match for Kentucky.

The Wildcats are back in action on Sunday, March 22 as they take on SEC foe Missouri. The match will start at 10 a.m. ET at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
