ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 22 Kentucky women’s tennis opened its two-match roadtrip with a 4-0 loss at No. 7 Georgia on Friday.
The Wildcats (11-6, 2-2 SEC) faced their third top-15 opponent in their last four matches, but were unable to hand the Bulldogs (11-4, 4-1 SEC) their second SEC loss of the season. Kentucky, with two ranked players and one doubles team ranked in the latest poll was facing a Georgia team that featured five singles players and two doubles teams in the rankings.
It was a tightly-contested doubles point to open the match. Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff and Kelsey Dieters were defeated 8-5 before Aldila Sutjiadi and Mami Adachi were edged 8-7 (7-3) by the No. 16 doubles team, Lauren Herring and Ellen Perez. While play was stopped, Nadia Ravita and Kirsten Lewis held a 6-5 lead over Georgia’s No. 20 Silvia Garcia and Kennedy Shaffer.
In singles competition, Adachi fell at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-0 to No. 102 Garcia and Dieters lost, 6-1, 6-2 on court four to No. 58 Shaffer.
Georgia clinched the match at No. 2 singles as Sutjiadi fell to No. 56 Perez, 6-4, 6-3.
With the match completed, No. 85 Ravita held a 7-5, 0-3 lead at No. 1 singles over No. 11 Herring.
Kentucky concludes the weekend Sunday at Tennessee before the Wildcats are back home on Feb. 20 when they host Arkansas at 6 p.m. ET. UK concludes the weekend vs. Mizzou on Sunday at Noon ET.
