MOBILE, Ala. – Junior David Snyder shot a 1-under par (71) on the final day of the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate to lead the Kentucky men’s golf team to its fifth top 10 finish of season on Tuesday.
Snyder finished 13th overall to pace the Cats which included back-to-back under par rounds. It’s the second top-20 finish of the season for the Somerset, Ky., native.
“We struggled in our opening spring event and have much work to do,” UK coach Brian Craig said. “We did get better each day, but this team is a work in progress in every regard. The future is bright in the long run with the talented youth we have in place. Unfortunately, the process takes time when you rebuild but I love the prospects of what this group will eventually achieve.”
Freshman Tyler `Chip’ McDaniel registered an even-par 72 in the final action to finish tied for 31st.
Three Wildcats fired their best rounds of the tournament in the final day of competition. Freshman Cooper Musselman enjoyed his best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a 1-over par (73) to cap the tournament in a tie for 44th overall. Senior Will Bishop and junior Todd McDaniel scored a 75 and 76, respectively.
With a final round of 291, seven strokes better than round two, the Wildcats were able to pass two teams to finish in sole possession of 10th place as a team – the fifth-consecutive top-10 finish this season. UK was a mere stroke off of Mississippi State for ninth place. Auburn won the tournament for the third-consecutive year.
Sophomore Stephen Stallings led the way for the five Wildcats competing in the USA Individual Tournament at the same venue. Stallings capped the three-round tournament with a 74 for 10th place. Freshman Cristian DiMarco, appearing in his first collegiate tournament, placed in a tie for 16th. Classmate Chris Meuth, also making his first collegiate appearance capped the tournament in 18th. He concluded the tournament with consecutive rounds of 76.
Junior Harrison Greenberry tied for 19th, while sophomore Hager Collins rounded out the tournament in 28th.
Kentucky will return to action March 1-3 at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate Tournament in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico.
