Over the next two weeks, Cat Scratches will give fans an inside look at UK softball’s 2015 roster with 20 fun questions and a quick outlook heading into the team’s season opener on Feb. 4 vs. Florida A&M. Junior utility player Maisie Steed has played all over the diamond for head coach Rachel Lawson and Co., including all three outfield positions, third base and first base. Steed has played in 120 career games for Kentucky, launching 15 home runs with 34 RBI and 55 runs scored. Steed started 53 games her freshman season and 37 last season before sustaining an injury that sidelined her from anything but pinch running the last month of the year. Steed, who played through the hand injury last year to pinch run in the WCWS and score a run, was locked in for Kentucky’s home tournament in 2014, recording a hit in every game with homers in both games vs. Kansas. The native of Powder Springs, Ga., had a great game against in-state foe Louisville, hitting a solo home run before a two-run single later in the game. The strong defensive player also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 2014. A two-year member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, Steed plans a major in kinesiology and health promotion and has been active volunteering in the Lexington community.Come see Maisie and the rest of the Kentucky Wildcats this spring at John Cropp Stadium. UK’s home opener is March 11 vs. EKU at 5 p.m. ET. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the UK Ticket Office at 1-800-928-2287, in person at the Joe Craft Center Ticket Office or online at www.ukathletics.com/tickets.
