LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky gymnastics team will host its second-annual DanceBlue Meet on Friday when UK faces No. 6 Alabama at 7 p.m. ET in Memorial Coliseum. In addition to supporting DanceBlue’s fight against pediatric cancer, the team will continue to dedicate each meet in 2015 to Kylie Rowand, who has stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma.
At Friday’s meet, UK will raise awareness and money to benefit children with cancer who are treated at the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic on the UK campus. The team will wear special gold warmup tops Friday, which will be auctioned off on UKathletics.com following the meet. Flowers and ribbons will be sold to support DanceBlue, and fans will also be able to make cards and pictures for children at the Pediatric Clinic.
All proceeds will go to DanceBlue 2015, a fundraiser for UK’s Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic.
This season, the UK gymnastics team is also dedicating each meet to Kylie Rowand, who has stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma. Kylie is almost 3 and was diagnosed a year ago. Her mom was a gymnast for UK head coach Tim Garrison when Garrison coached in California. This season, the Wildcats will #CompeteForKylie in each meet, and encourage their opponents to join the fight as well. More information on Kylie can be found on Facebook at Facebook.com/PrayersForKylie1.
DanceBlue is a year-long fundraising effort, which culminates with a 24-hour dance marathon each February. All money raised goes to the Golden Matrix Fund of UK’s Pediatric Oncology Clinic. Last year, the organization raised more than $1.4 million. More information about DanceBlue can be found at DanceBlue.org.
In the fall, the UK volleyball, swimming and diving and women’s soccer teams each hosted a DanceBlue contest and combined to raise over $6,000 for the organization.
Representatives from DanceBlue will be at the meet for fans to donate or learn more information.
