HONOLULU – The No. 29 University of Kentucky women’s tennis team opened the season with a 4-3 loss at Hawaii to open the 2015 season Tuesday.
The Wildcats won the doubles point to open the match. On the No. 1 court, Nadia Ravita and Taylor Lederman defeated Hawaii’s Cindy Nguyen and Sarah Gealer, 6-2. On the No. 2 court, Kelsey Dieters and Mami Adachi downed Viktoria Malova and Paulina Petriskova, 6-4, to put the Wildcats ahead, 1-0.
In the singles matches, the Wildcats won on courts No. 4 and No. 6. Kirsten Lewis defeated Gealer, 6-3, 6-0, on court No. 4. On court No. 6, Lederman beat Rebecca Faltusz, 6-3, 6-4.
On the No. 1 court, Hawaii’s Nguyen defeated Ravita , 7-6 (4), 6-7 (7), 6-0. On the No. 2 court, UH’s Malova beat Dieters , 6-3, 6-3. The No. 3 court had the result of Martina Kostalova deafeating UK’s Adachi, 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-1. To clinch the match for the Rainbow Wahine in three sets on the No. 5 court, Paulina Petriskova beat the Wildcats’ Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4.
UK returns home to host its first home contests of the year on Jan. 18 vs. the College of Charleston and Belmont. The first match vs. College of Charleston is set for 10 a.m. at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. The Wildcats and Belmont will compete at 4 p.m. ET.
