LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Stuart Pope was named the University of Kentucky women’s soccer team’s first-ever two-time Academic All-American on Thursday afternoon, as the Fayetteville, Ga., native was honored as a 2014 CoSIDA Academic All-American for her efforts and achievements in the 2014 season.
After completing her final season of eligibility this year, Pope has had one of the strongest academic resumes for UK in her four seasons, recording a GPA of over 3.9 in her four years in Lexington, whilst studying Biology.
Pope in 2013 became just the third UK women’s soccer player to be named an NSCAA/CoSIDA Academic All-American and the first in seven years, joining Allison Peppers (1999) and Anne Oguedele (2006) as the only other recipients. Pope becomes the first-ever UK player to win the prestigious honor two times in her career.
Pope played over 1,800 minutes this season on the field, while scoring two goals and assisting on six other goals, for a season point total of 10. She fired 35 shots this season with 14 of them being hit on target, and also tallied one game-winning goal this season.
Pope in her career finished with 15 goals, 14 assists and 44 points in her storied career, in which she had eight game-winning goals, had over 100 shots, and played over 5,100 minutes on the pitch for UK head coach Jon Lipsitz. Pope was an extremely versatile player for the Wildcats, starting her career off in the midfield, before playing up top as a forward for a bit, and alternating depending upon matchups as a forward and midfielder as her career finalized.
The two-time Academic All-American go out as a critical member of the winningest class in UK women’s soccer history, collecting an overall record of 59-27-4 in its four years in the Blue and White. The class of 2014 made the NCAA Tournament all four years in Lexington, including picking up the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament win in 2012 to push the Wildcats to the second round for the first time in program history.
The senior class also won five All-Southeastern Conference honors, a SEC Defensive Player of the Year Award, a Honda Award, three All-SEC Tournament honors, and contributed over 100 hours of community service to the Lexington area.
