COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team got an early first-half goal from sophomore Jade Klump in the 12th minute of Friday’s postponed match with Missouri, but saw the Tigers score twice after to come from behind and capture a 2-1 win on a cold, gloomy day at Walton Stadium in Columbia, Mo.
On UK’s initial goal, Klump picked up the rebound off fellow sophomore Michaela Dooley’s initial shot and put it past a diving McKenzie Sauerwein to put the Wildcats ahead 1-0 in the early going of the match. The goal for Klump marked her team-high tying sixth of the season, after just scoring one time in the 2013 season. Dooley’s assists was her team-high seventh of the season and came off the rebound from her shot that Sauerwein made a great diving save of.
Missouri’s (8-2-2, 3-1-0 SEC) Allie Hess scored her first-career goal in the 39th minute to level the match late in the opening half, as there was a corner kick by the Tigers that was successfully cleared by the UK back line. The Wildcats then allowed in a second service, and after the initial save happened by Ayanna Parker, Hess found the back of the net to put Missouri on the scoreboard.
Late in the second half, after UK had multiple scoring chances to take the lead, Missouri capitalized on its only shot on goal of the second half to that point, as Jessica Herrman scored her first goal of the season in the 75th minute to put the Tigers ahead. Herrman beat the Wildcat defense to the left wide side and was able to get past the last defender and get 1v1 with Parker and a trailing defender down the left side. Herrman slipped a pass into the back of the net to the far post to collect her first-career strike.
Friday’s match marked the first time all season that UK has lost a match this season when scoring first.
