Notebook: Keeneland Shuttles; Game Day Recycling Challenge
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The air is getting cooler and the leaves are turning colors, which means the fall season is upon Lexington. What better way to celebrate its arrival than a UK football game joined with a Keeneland race day. And for the second straight year, Lextran has teamed up with UK and Keeneland to offer fan shuttles to and from both events.
On Saturday, Oct. 4 when the University of Kentucky football team takes on South Carolina for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Commonwealth Stadium, fans will have the chance to enjoy both a college football atmosphere and the Keeneland racing tradition without having to move their vehicles. Lextran will be offering a shuttle bus to and from Commonwealth Stadium and Keeneland for fans for $1 each way.
Fans with or without reserved parking permits at Commonwealth Stadium can take advantage of the shuttles. Fans with reserved parking permits at Commonwealth Stadium for Saturday’s game are encouraged to park in their respective lots (permit parking map), while fans without reserved parking spots should park in non-permit parking locations (non-permit parking map). All football game-day parking and permit policies will be enforced.
The stadium pickup point will be at the intersection of University Drive and Cooper Drive. The first shuttle from University and Cooper will depart at 11:45 a.m. ET and the first shuttle from Keeneland will depart at 12:25 p.m. The shuttle will run continuously with stops every 20 minutes (schedule subject to traffic) until the final stadium pickup at 6:05 p.m. and the final Keeneland pickup at 6:45 p.m.
A key fact for fans to remember is that your vehicle should be originally parked at the site which you intend to finish your day.
The shuttle will be in operation for all three home games in October and the schedule will be the same, regardless of kickoff time.

UK Athletics Asking Fans to Participate in Game Day Recycling Challenge: UK Athletics is asking fans to help with the Game Day Recycling Challenge on Saturday by collecting all plastic bottles, glass bottles and aluminum cans and placing them all in the recycling bags that will be passed out by the parking staff as they enter Commonwealth Stadium parking lots.
The Game Day Recycling Challenge is a friendly competition for colleges and universities to promote waste reduction at football games. The Game Day Recycling Challenge is being run by a partnership of the College and University Recycling Coalition (CURC), Recycle Mania and Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and is supported by EPA’s Waste Wise program. During the challenge, colleges and universities implement waste reduction programs during home football games. Schools track and report waste reductions and disposal data that are used to rank the schools.
