BRYAN, Texas – The 30th-ranked (Golfweek) University of Kentucky women’s golf team sits in fourth place following the first day of the 2014 “MO”Morial Invitational. Sophomore Haley Mills carded a 71 on the opening day and currently holds second place after 18 holes.

“I think overall we played with a good attitude today and created a lot of opportunities,” head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “We still need to do a better job of capitalizing on those but we finished strong and I know this group has more in them as we head into the next two days.”

Mills shot a one-under 71 and is tied for second, only two strokes behind the leader, Kayla Jones (Florida State), who shot a 69. The Tyler, Texas, native recorded three birdies on the day, including two on the back nine.

Junior Cylia Damerau regrouped after three bogeys through the first 10 holes, including a double-bogey on the ninth, to close out the round with six pars and a birdie and finish three-over 75 in a tie for 16th.
