LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 30 (Golfweek) University of Kentucky women’s golf team is set to begin the 2014-15 season this week, traveling to Bryan, Texas to participate in the “MO”Morial Invitational hosted by Texas A&M from Sept. 8-10.
“We’re always excited to start a new season, especially in such a first-class event as the “MO”Morial,” head coach Golda Johansson Borst said. “This is a great opportunity for us to see where we are as a team right out of the gates against quality competition.”
Kentucky’s lineup for the season-opening tournament will feature sophomore Haley Mills, who won the event last season, junior Cylia Damerau, sophomores Ale Walker and Megan Kinney and freshman Grace Rose. For Rose, it will be the first collegiate action of her career.
Mills tallied rounds of 70, 72 and 71 (213) on the par 72 course last season to claim the championship, while teammate Sarah Harris posted a runner-up finish, helping the Wildcats hoist the trophy.
The tournament, being held at the Traditions Club, will begin Monday and conclude Wednesday with a round of 18 each day. Action will begin at 9 a.m. ET. The Traditions Club is a par-72, 6,206-yard course.
Joining Kentucky in the invitational will be 17th ranked Auburn, 19th ranked Texas A&M, Baylor, Florida State, Houston, Louisiana-Monroe, Stephen F. Austin, Texas Christian, Texas San Antonio, Troy and Tulsa.
This marks the fourth time that Kentucky will take part in the “MO”Morial.
