LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky divers Christa Cabot and Lindsay Keahey paired up to place in the top eight in both events they competed in at the 2014 USA Diving AT&T National Diving Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., August 12-17.
Cabot and Keahey, both seniors, placed fourth in the finals of the Women’s Synchronized Platform event with a score of 229.26. In the synchronized 3-meter springboard competition, the duo placed eighth overall with a score of 243.33.
“Christa and Lindsay had a great outcome at the National Diving Championships,” diving coach Ted Hautau said. “They did not get much chance to train together this summer and Christa was coming off some down time, so I was pretty pleased with both of their synchronized diving events. We were happy to get some repetitions and some training in and finish as high as they did. We are looking forward to the new season starting up in a few weeks and getting the whole team together.”
The 2014 campaign begins Oct. 3 for the Kentucky swimming and diving team with its annual Blue/White Intrasquad. The regular season, which features five home dates, begins Oct. 10 vs. South Carolina at the Lancaster Aquatics Center. UK also welcomes Florida to Lexington on Oct. 16 and Missouri, Northwestern and Southern Illinois to the Commonwealth on Nov. 7 and 8.
Senior Day, which includes a matchup with in-state rival Louisville, is Jan. 24 at the Lancaster Aquatics Center. Complete information on the schedule for the 2014-15 season can be found on UKathletics.com.
The UK women are coming off a 23rd-place finish at the NCAA Championships, its highest finish at the national championship since 2008. Cabot earned two All-America honors with a pair of top-11 finishes in the diving events. Christina Bechtel was named All-American for the first time in her career when she notched a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly with a school-record time, while Abby Myers was named Honorable Mention All-American when she finished 12th in the 200 butterfly.
Five Wildcat men earned Honorable Mention All-America honors as UK finished 37th at the NCAA men’s national championships. Lucas Gerotto, George Greenhalgh, Eric Bruck and Chris Lott came in 16th overall in the 200 medley relay, while diver Greg Ferrucci placed 11th on platform for his seventh career All-America accolade. Freshman Brandon Flynn competed in three events and finished in the top 25 twice, highlighted by a school-record swim in the 400 individual medley.
The UK women return 20 members from the 2013-14 squad and lose just four. The men will return 22 of 33 swimmers and divers next season. Six of the 10 Wildcats that competed at the NCAA Championships in 2014 return next season, two of them as sophomores and four as seniors.
