Brian May has joined the UK women’s golf coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Golda Borst announced Thursday.

A native of Frankfort, Kentucky, May comes to Lexington after serving as the Head Golf Professional at the Frankfort Country Club for the last two and a half years.

“I’m excited about this opportunity,” May said. “Being from Kentucky I already have an instilled passion for UK and UK Athletics and I got a taste of high-level athletes and high-level athletics after being here for a year as a student-manager. Seeing what Golda has done the last four years, taking the program to a new level, I’m excited to get in and help take it to new heights and continue on the rise she started. I’m grateful to her and Mitch Barnhart for the opportunity to be a part of such a proud department.”

“I am very excited about adding Brian to our coaching staff,” Borst said. “Brian brings a tremendous amount of passion and enthusiasm for UK and he has a great deal of knowledge of the game both from a player perspective and from a teacher perspective. Brian is a very hard working individual and I believe he will have an immediate impact on our team. I am very excited to have him be a part of our program.”

After graduating from the Golf Academy of the South in Orlando, Florida, in December of 2007, May returned to Lexington to take additional classes in exercise science at UK.

A PGA Level 3 Apprentice, May continued his golf career at the Frankfort Country Club where he served as the Assistant Golf Professional for two years before being promoted to Head Golf Professional in January of 2013.A 2003 graduate of Franklin County High School, May is married to the former Corie Broering.
