LEXINGTON, Ky. – Catcher Micheal Thomas has been named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, it was announced by the league office.

A redshirt senior, Thomas was honored for his work in the Lexington community over the last five years. A two-year starter behind the dish, Thomas completed his Kentucky career in 2014 in leading the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament Louisville Regional final. After the year, he was drafted in the 22nd round by the Tigers in the 2014 MLB Draft, his first career draft selection.

A native of Elizabethtown, Ky., Thomas has volunteered extensively at the Miracle League, a local organization dedicated to providing opportunities to handicapped children to play baseball. He has worked for multiple years in the backpack program for God’s Pantry and has also worked with a UK children’s hospital patient through Team Impact and with the Blanket Project.

Leading all catchers in the SEC with eight homers, Thomas had a breakout year offensively as a senior. Thomas hit .315 with 11 doubles, one triple, eight homers and 45 RBI as a senior, with a .484 slugging and a .402 on-base percentage. Thomas starred for the Wildcats behind the plate in 2014, starting 57 of UK’s 62 games at catcher. A defensive dynamo for the last two seasons, Thomas finished his 137-game UK career with a .995 fielding percentage. In his career, Thomas hit .279 (107-for-383) with 17 doubles, one triple, 12 homers and 70 RBI, with six steals.
