LEXINGTON, Ky. – Three members of the University of Kentucky women’s tennis team will participate in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, Wednesday, May 21, hosted by the University of Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
No. 47 Nadia Ravita will compete in the singles draw and will face No. 33 Romy Koelzer of Clemson, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. ET. Ravita posted a 10-6 overall record this season and had five wins in conference play. Ravita defeated four ranked opponents, including Auburn’s No. 32 Pleun Burgmans twice. In a key Southeastern Conference win, Ravita clinched the match for the Wildcats with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 win over Burgmans. This will be the sophomore’s second consecutive year receiving an at-large bid to the championships. Last season, she fell to third-ranked UCLA Robin Anderson in the opening round.
Senior duo, Cece Witten and Caitlin McGraw, are making their NCAA Doubles debut against Northwestern’s No. 29 Alicia Barnett and Veronica Corning. The pair had a nine match win streak before their first loss to Texas A&M’s then-No. 12 duo Stefania Hristov and Cristina Stancu. Facing top competition at the No. 1 doubles slot, the seniors held their own with signature wins over South Carolina’s No. 30 Elixane Lechemia and Dominika Kanakova and No. 19 Emily Flickinger and Burgmans. The first round of the doubles draw begins on Thursday, May 22. No time for the match has been set.
