LEXINGTON, Ky.  – University of Kentucky junior swimmer Abby Myers was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District® At-Large Team, it was announced Thursday.

Myers, who was named an Honorable Mention All-American this season, is one of 10 honorees on the Division I team in District 2 and just one of six women’s swimmers from the Southeastern Conference to be named to an Academic All-District team. There are eight Division I teams, divided into geographical districts.

“I’m honored to be recognized on the Academic All District team,” Myers said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates and coaches pushing me and the outstanding support we get from the tutors and mentors we have in the academic center at CATS. It is a great privilege to be named to the Academic All-District Team.”

Myers earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 200 butterfly and competed in two events at the 2014 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. She owns the second-fastest time in UK history in the 200 butterfly with a 1:56.23, the fourth-fastest time in the 100 butterfly (53.17) and the ninth-fastest 200 freestyle (1:48.51).

The Cranberry Township, Pa., native was named to the SEC Community Service Team and to UK’s prestigious Frank G. Ham Society of Character in 2014. She is majoring in Exercise Science and has a 3.94 GPA.

“Abby is very deserving of this honor,” UK head coach Lars Jorgensen said. “She made phenomenal progress this year athletically, earned All-America honors and continues to do well academically. Abby will be a team captain next year and is a great representative of our program and what it means to be a Wildcat.”

The 2014 Capital One Academic All-District ® Women’s At-Large Teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America and recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The Academic All-District ® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. UK’s district includes schools in Kentucky along with Washington D.C., Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
