Women's Golf

LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky women’s golf freshman Haley Mills has been named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team, it was announced Friday by the league office.

Mills selection marks the second straight season a UK golfer has been named to the SEC All-Freshman Team after Sarah Harris earned the program’s first-ever All-Freshman Team honor last season.

The Tyler, Texas, native has competed in all nine tournaments for the Wildcats this season and ranks second on the team with a stroke average of 74.04. Mills is tied for the team lead with two top-10 finishes and two top-20 finishes this season. In her first collegiate tournament, the “MO”Morial Invitational, Mills took home individual champion honors after shooting a 3-under par, 213, and the only player in the field to shoot under par. Mills recorded top-16 finishes in three straight tournaments at one point during the spring (T12th at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, 7th at LSU Tiger Golf Classic and T16th at Rebel Intercollegiate).

Following the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in March, Mills was named SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week after helping the Wildcats to a third place finish. Mills carded a 4-over par, 220 (73-73-74), in Baton Rouge to place her in seventh place on the individual leaderboard. The SEC Freshman Golfer of the Week honor marked the first such award for a UK women’s golfer just a couple weeks after sophomore Cylia Damerau was named the programs first SEC Co-Golfer of the Week.

Mills helped lead the Wildcats to their fourth straight NCAA Regional appearance, as UK will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., to compete in the East Regional, May 8-10 at the Southwood Golf Club.
