LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team was selected to the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship for the 19th time in program history Monday night, as the Wildcats made the field and will compete in the East Regional at the Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla., May 8-10. UK made the field of 72 teams for the fourth consecutive season and will make compete in the East Regional for the third time in the last four seasons.
“We are excited about being sent to Tallahassee for the NCAA regionals,” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “I feel like we got a strong draw this year and Florida courses typically treat our team well. We have learned a lot this year and we will draw on those experiences as we head to the Championship. I know our team has learned a lot this year that will help us next week.”
The 24-team regional features five Southeastern Conference teams, including the 2014 SEC Champions Vanderbilt. Auburn, Georgia and South Carolina will also represent the league in the East Regional. Along with Vanderbilt, the field boasts 12 conference champions: Duke, Stanford, Pepperdine, Tulane, Louisville, East Tennessee State, Campbell, College of Charleston, Troy, Murray State, Seton Hall and Alabama State. The remainder of the field consists of UCF, Virginia, NC State, Florida State, Baylor, East Carolina and Texas State.
