LEXINGTON, Ky. – After advancing to the 2014 Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinals a week ago, the No. 14 University of Kentucky men’s tennis team will now set its sights on the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships, beginning with the NCAA Selection Show on Tuesday afternoon.
The field of 64 teams, comprised of the 31 conference tournament champions and 33 at-large bids which will be determined by the NCAA committee, will be announced on Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
There will be 16 first and second round regional host sites, with the top 16 teams in the nation receiving bids to host the opening two rounds. Kentucky entered the last week of action, which includes conference tournaments at No. 14 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. The 16 regional site winners will advance to the 2014 NCAA Championships, hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga.
The Wildcats have generated an impressive resume for the NCAA committee, including wins over No. 1 Ohio State, No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 11 Duke, No. 17 Mississippi State, No. 20 Tennessee and No. 21 Vanderbilt. Kentucky’s highest ranking of the season was No. 8.
UK has hosted the NCAA Tournament the last six seasons, and have advanced out of the Lexington Regional each of the past four seasons to the NCAA Sweet 16, for the first time in program history.
