HOOVER, Ala. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team posted an 8-over par, 296, during Saturday’s second round of the SEC Championship at Greystone Golf and Country Club, which was 17 strokes better than its first round score. UK will enter the final round in 12th place at 33-over par, 609. Play will begin Sunday morning at 8 a.m. CT.

No. 13 Vanderbilt sits atop the team standings at 9-over par, while No. 4 Arkansas (+15), No. 16 LSU (+16), No. 22 Auburn (+18) and No. 7 Alabama (+19) complete the top five. Vanderbilt’s Simin Feng and Jenny Hahn and Alabama’s Janie Jackson are currently atop the individual standings at 1-under par, 143.

Rounding out the rest of the team standings were No. 6 South Carolina (+24), No. 19 Florida (+27), Georgia (+29), Missouri (+30), Tennessee (+31), Texas A&M (+31), UK (+33), Ole Miss (+42) and Mississippi State (+46).

“Today was a much better day for us,” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “We were able to control our thoughts and we handled our emotions a lot better. We look forward to getting back out on the course tomorrow to play some aggressive golf.”

Sophomore Cylia Damerau continues to lead UK after recording a 3-over par, 75, for the second straight round. Through two rounds Damerau is tied for 19th at 6-over par, 150. Sophomore Sarah Harris is just two strokes behind Damerau at 8-over par, 152, after a 4-over par, 76, on Saturday. Harris is tied for 30th with 18 holes to play.

The low round of the day belonged to senior Liz Breed who carded an even par, 72, just a day after shooting a 10-over par, 82. Breed climbed the leaderboard into a tie for 39th at 10-over par, 154.

Freshman Haley Mills registered a 2-over par, 74, on Saturday and is now 11-over par, 155, for the tournament. Mills is tied for 46th, while leading the team in birdies with five, including four in the second round. In a tie for 50th is freshman Alessandra Walker at 12-over par, 156. Walker turned in a scorecard of 3-over par, 75, in round two.
