LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Grace Trimble, a member of the Kentucky women’s tennis team was named a 2014 Truman Scholar, it was announced by UKnow, Wednesday afternoon. A native of Winchester, Ky., Trimble is the 13th recipient of the award and the only from Kentucky this year. She will be awarded with $30,000 to perform graduate work in areas of public service.
The Truman Scholarships are national awards given to college juniors who demonstrate outstanding leadership and are devoted to careers in public service. Recipients of the award are required to work in public service at least three of the seven years following completion of their graduate program.
In a field of 655 candidates nationwide, Trimble, along with 59 others, were selected by the Truman Foundation. Trimble will join the other scholars in May for a week of programming and a special awards ceremony in at the Truman Library in Independence, Mo.
This prestigious award comes the same week that Trimble was selected to the 2014 Southeastern Conference Community Service Team for her dedication to her community. This was her second time be selected to the Community Service Team.
