LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky freshman swimmer Brandon Flynn has been invited to the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, it was announced today. UK’s 200 Medley Relay team will also represent the Wildcats at the Championships in Austin, Texas, March 27-29.
“Brandon had an excellent freshman campaign and we hope that he will improve even more for the NCAA Championships,” UK head coach Lars Jorgensen said. “We’re also excited to have a relay at NCAAs for the first time in several years. It will be great to have Brandon and the relay, along with UK’s divers who are qualifying this weekend, represent Kentucky at the NCAA Championships. We have stressed being a team a lot this year, so it will be nice to continue that at in Austin.”
Flynn will compete in the men’s 1650 yard freestyle, where he is seeded 30th. His time of 15:03.42 is the second-best time in the event in program history.
UK’s 200 medley relay team consists of senior Lucas Gerotto, junior George Greenhalgh and seniors Eric Bruck and Chris Lott. The squad owns the school record in the event with a 1:25.43.
While the complete list of swimmers has been announced, divers qualify separately. Seniors Greg Ferrucci, John Fox and Zack Peterson and sophomore Noah Richter will compete at the NCAA Zone Diving Meet March 13-15 in Columbus, Ohio to qualify for an invite to the championships.
