LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Tom Jomby of the University of Kentucky men’s tennis team was named the Southeastern Conference’s Player of the Week, it was announced on Wednesday morning by the conference office.
Jomby continued his stellar play, as he recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 11 Harrison Adams. Friday’s win marked the third time this season Jomby has defeated an opponent ranked higher than him. The Nantes, France, native is now 13-1 on the year in singles play, and 3-0 in the SEC.
Jomby in doubles also had a big afternoon, as he teamed with sophomore Kevin Lai to defeat the No. 1 team in the nation of Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow, 8-7 (4) in the deciding doubles point match.
On Tuesday morning, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced that Jomby had moved into the top 10 of the singles rankings for the first time in his career. Jomby is the highest-ranked UK singles player, with Beck Pennington slotted at No. 67 in this week’s rankings. Jomby and Lai escalated up to No. 26 in doubles after their win on Friday. Kentucky as a team moved back into the top 15 at No. 15 in Tuesday’s rankings.
UK will continue its three-match homestand with the two Magnolia State schools coming to Lexington next weekend, as UK will face Mississippi State on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET and Ole Miss on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
