Baseball– The 22nd-ranked Kentucky baseball team completed a five-game week with four wins, including a midweek sweep over Cincinnati and a historic three-game weekend series win over Ball State, that saw the Wildcats score the most runs in a series in program history.- The Wildcats posted a 7-0 win over Cincinnati in the opener of a Wednesday doubleheader, getting the first complete-game shutout in a midweek game in modern program history from sophomore lefty Dylan Dwyer (1-0, 3.00 ERA). UK then swept the twinbill with the Bearcats with a 13-2 win in the nightcap.- UK took a three-run lead into the ninth inning in the series opener on Friday vs. Ball State, before the Cardinals plated three runs to equal the game, with UK allowing a two-out error to plate the tying runs, with another error in the 10th inning allowing the game-winning runs to score. In the second game of the series, UK pounded the Cardinals 24-1, behind the NCAA-leading eighth homer of the year from A.J. Reed. UK then posted a 26-3 win over BSU in the rubber match, with catcher Micheal Thomas homering for the second straight game and Max Kuhn belting his first homer of 2014. UK’s 58 runs over the three-game weekend shattered the previous record of 47 runs scored in a three-game series with Tennessee Martin in 2007.- The Wildcats plated 76 runs during their five-game week, with a .385 average, 24 extra-base hits, nine steals, 17 hit batters and a .504 on-base percentage. In 16 games in 2014, UK has hit a SEC-leading .345 with 45 doubles, four triples, 14 homers and 182 runs scored, stealing 36 bases. On the mound, UK has a 2.51 team ERA in 143.1 innings, walking 50 and striking out 105, with UK fielding .965 and turning 15 double plays.Men’s basketball– Kentucky finished the regular season with a 22-9 overall record and a 12-6 mark in Southeastern Conference action. UK earned the No. 2 overall seed in the SEC Tournament and will take on the winner of LSU-Alabama at 7 p.m. ET on Friday, March 14 in Atlanta.- Julius Randle had two more double-double efforts in games against Alabama and Florida this week. He now has 18 double-doubles on the year which is a mark that ranks seventh in program history. He also moved to sixth in the freshman record books with 477 points scored on the season. He’s also posted eight-consecutive games with at least 10 rebounds. The last player to achieve that feat was DeMarcus Cousins during the 2009-10 season. Randle was named a Wooden Award finalist for the nation’s top player.- Freshman Dakari Johnson has scored eight or more points in each of the last three games.Women’s basketball– Kentucky made it to the SEC Tournament championship game for the fourth time in the last five seasons and second straight. In the championship game vs. Tennessee, the Wildcats fell in a heartbreaker, 71-70. UK defeated Florida (75-70) in the quaterfinals and South Carolina (68-58) in the semifinals.- Senior forward DeNesha Stallworth and freshman guard Linnae Harper were named to the SEC All-Tournament Team. Stallworth scored a season-high tying 21 points in the championship game on 9-of-14 shooting from the field. Harper recorded 11 of her 12 points in the first half.- Over the weekend, junior guard Bria Goss became the 29th Wildcat to score 1,000 career points. Goss had a team-high 14 points in the win vs. South Carolina.- UK will host the NCAA first and second rounds in Memorial Coliseum on March 22 and 24. The Wildcats will find out where they are in the NCAA Tournament on Monday, March 17 during the NCAA Selection Show.Women’s golf– The Wildcats placed 15th at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate over the weekend with a 54-hole team score of 53-over par, 905.- Freshman Haley Mills led all UK players with her second top 15 finish of the season. Mills finished tied for 12th with a six-over par, 219.- UK will next compete at the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La., from March 21-23.Gymnastics– The Kentucky gymnastics team sent its seniors out in style with another win over a ranked opponent with a 196.150 to defeat No. 22 California and Centenary Friday night in Memorial Coliseum. The second consecutive score of 196.000 or higher for the Wildcats come in the home finale and resulted in an upset win over a ranked team in back-to-back meets. California placed second with a 196.075, while Centenary was third with a 189.625. UK won three individual events along with senior Audrey Harrison’s win in the all-around.- Last week, UK set the program record floor score, and the Wildcats followed it up with a 49.425 Friday, the third-highest total in school history and the highest floor score among the three teams Friday night. UK’s vault score of 49.275 is a season best and tied for seventh best all-time. Kentucky added a 48.900 on bars and a 48.550 on beam, tied for the meet high.- In addition to her all-around win with a season-best 39.325, Harrison won floor with a 9.900, an honor she shared with freshman Taylor Puryear. Senior Kayla Sienkowski also went out with a bang in her final home meet with a win on balance beam with a season-best 9.825 for her first career event title. Junior Kenzie Hedges tied for the vault title with a career-best 9.925, her first event title of the season.Softball– The No. 8 University of Kentucky softball team opened its Southeastern Conference schedule with a series win at Mississippi State. The win marked the third time in the last four years UK has won its opening series in league action.- Sophomore pitcher Kelsey Nunley paced UK with a 2-0 record, keeping the Bulldogs scoreless for 14 straight innings, including throwing her second career no-hitter on Friday night. Over the weekend, Nunley allowed just three hits with nine strikeouts with opponents hitting just .068 against her. Behind Nunley, UK committed only one error on the weekend.- Offensively, UK was led by sophomore Nikki Sagermann, who hit .33 with a home run and two RBI, while seniors Krystal Smith and Ginny Carroll and sophomore Ansley Smith each hit homers. The pair of wins continues UK’s best start in program history with 18 wins in its first 21 games.Men’s tennis– The No. 22 University of Kentucky men’s tennis team went 1-0 this week, defeating No. 8 Texas A&M for its biggest win of the spring season on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats used wins in the doubles point, with victories from the No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 position in singles to down the Aggies, 4-0 in Lexington.- Freshman Jerry Lopez clinched the match on court four, clinching his third-straight match, and third-straight SEC match on Friday. The Puerto Vallarta, Mexico native’s three clinches are the first three in his career. Lopez’s win on Friday came in dramatic fashion, winning a second-set tiebreak, 8-6 on his second match point to seal the win after taking the first set, 6-2.- Senior Tom Jomby continued his stellar play, as he recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win over No. 11 Harrison Adams. Friday’s win marked the third time this season Jomby has defeated an opponent ranked higher than him. The Nantes, France, native is now 13-1 on the year in singles play, and 3-0 in the SEC. Jomby in doubles also had a big afternoon, as he teamed with sophomore Kevin Lai to defeat the No. 1 team in the nation of Junior Ore and Jackson Withrow, 8-7 (4) in the deciding doubles point match.Women’s tennis– The No. 22 University of Kentucky women’s tennis went 1-1 this past weekend. The Wildcats were defeated by No. 4 Texas A&M, but rebounded with a 4-2 win over Missouri.- Senior duo Caitlin McGraw and CeCe Witten and No. 57 Nadia Ravita and Aldila Sutjiadi suffered their first doubles loss at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles position, respectively, against Texas A&M. McGraw and Sutjiadi were the only Kentucky players to get singles wins against the Aggies. McGraw took down Jana McCord, 6-1, 6-1 while Sutjiadi defeated Ines Deheza, 7-5, 6-2. The Wildcats fell to Texas A&M, 4-2.- Against Missouri, Kentucky bounced back from their loss to beat the Tigers. Kirsten Lewis and Edmee Morin-Kougoucheff knocked off Kelli Hine and Tracy Dong at No. 3 doubles, 8-2. Ravita and Sutjiadi followed with a win at the No. 2 doubles spot to give Kentucky a 1-0 lead.- No. 51 Ravita extended Kentucky’s lead when she edged Cierra Gayton-Leach, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 1 singles position. Kentucky dropped two straight matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, but Lewis fought hard at No. 4 singles to stop the Tigers’ run. She defeated Rhyner, 6-3, 7-6 (3-0), 6-4 and put the Wildcats up, 3-1. Junior Stephanie Fox ended the match with a win at the No. 6 singles slot.
