DULUTH, Ga. – No. 12/13 Kentucky women’s basketball is just one win away from bringing home the Southeastern Conference Tournament title for the second time in school history and first since 1982. Standing in the way is No. 6 Tennessee, who the Wildcats defeated earlier this season in Knoxville, Tenn. The teams will battle for the hardware Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. The game will be televised by ESPN and WatchESPN with Cara Capuano and Carolyn Peck calling the action. It also will be carried live on the UK IMG Sports Radio Network with Neil Price.

Kentucky (24-7) earned its fifth overall and second consecutive appearance in the championship game after upsetting top-seeded and No. 5/7 South Carolina on Friday, 68-58. Four Wildcats scored in double figures paced by junior guard Bria Goss (Indianapolis) with 14 points and senior forward DeNesha Stallworth (Richmond, Ky.) and freshman guard Linnae Harper (Chicago) with 12 points each. Freshman guard Makayla Epps added 10 points off the bench in helping the Cats snap a two-game losing skid to the Gamecocks and chart their sixth win over a ranked opponent of the season.
Tennessee (26-5) earned the No. 2 seed with a 13-3 league mark. The Lady Vols defeated LSU (77-65) and Texas A&M (86-77) to advance to their 22nd SEC Tournament championship game.
Overall, Tennessee leads the overall series with Kentucky 49-10, but the Wildcats have won three of the last four matchups, including two in a row. Kentucky defeated Tennessee during the regular season, 75-71, on Feb. 16 in Knoxville, Tenn., marking UK’s first win in Knoxville since 1985 and first-ever win in Thompson-Boling Arena.
The marks the fourth meeting between the Cats and Lady Vols in the SEC championship game. UK is 1-2 in those games, defeating Tennessee for its lone SEC Tournament title in 1982 and falling in the title game in 2010 and 2011.
Kentucky is 29-35 overall in the SEC Tournament, including 10-6 under Matthew Mitchell. The Cats are 6-3 this season vs. top-25 opponents and 4-3 vs. teams in the top 10.
