LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team is set to compete in its toughest competition to date when the No. 24 Wildcats travel to Hilton Head Island, S.C., for the third annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. Elite programs from across the country will be on display in the three-day, 54-hole tournament beginning Friday, March 7 and wrapping up Sunday, March 9. 

Last Time Out:
The Wildcats placed fourth at the UCF Challenge with a program-best team score of 866 (+2). Kentucky saved its best round for the final day as the team posted a two-under par, 286. Sophomore Cylia Damerau was the top UK finisher, tying for seventh place. Damerau recorded under or even par all three rounds of competition en route to a two-under par, 214, and earning SEC Co-Golfer of the Week honors. Her score of 214 is a personal best as a Wildcat. Sophomore Sarah Harris placed in the top 20 as she tied for 14th with a one-under par, 215.

Senior Liz Breed leads the team with a season scoring average of 72.47 and two top 10 finishes. Harris ranks second with a 73.93 scoring average. As a team, Kentucky has three top five finishes through five tournaments. 

About the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate:
This marks the first time Kentucky will participate in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, which is in its third year of competition. Eighteen holes will be played Friday through Sunday, with fixed tee times on hole No. 1 and No. 10 starting at 8 a.m. ET each day. Long Cove Club will feature a par-71 (36-35), 6,142-yard setup. 

The Field:
The field includes six of the top 10 teams in the nation and 11 teams ranked in the top 25 overall. Joining the 24th-ranked Wildcats are No. 3 Duke, No. 4 Arkansas, No. 5 Oklahoma, No. 6 Arizona State, No. 7 Stanford, No. 8 Alabama, No. 13 South Carolina, No. 14 Vanderbilt, No. 21 LSU, No. 23 Wake Forest, Auburn, Furman, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

“The tournament this week presents a new and exciting challenge for our team,” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “This is a new event for us and it boasts one of the best fields that we will see this spring. Our team has put in a lot of great work in the past few weeks and I know we are ready to compete. Long Cove Club is a beautiful course and is definitely a placement course, which I believe suits us well. Our gameplan for the week is to play with patience and stay aggressive; the results will take care of themselves.”
