LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore Nadia Ravita was tabbed Southeastern Conference Player of the Week it was announced by league offices on Wednesday. Ravita’s honor is followed by two consecutive wins at the No. 1 singles position to begin SEC play.
The 51st nationally ranked Ravita defeated LSU’s Joana Vale Costa and Arkansas’ Yang Pang in two high intensity matches. In a come back win against Vale Costa, Ravita rebounded from a 6-2 loss in the first set to win 7-5 in the second set, forcing a tiebreak. She won the third set, 6-0, and clinched the match for Kentucky. Ravita earned her second conference win against Pang. Pang and Ravita faced off last season, but the Wildcat dropped the match and Arkansas provided Kentucky with its first SEC loss. Emotions ran high, but the Jakarta, Indonesia native came out with the 6-1, 6-2 win.
Ravita is 7-0 (2-0 SEC) this season in singles at the No. 1 slot and owns a career singles SEC record of 12-3, all at the No.1 position. She is also undefeated at the No. 2 doubles position paired with freshman Aldila Sutjiadi. The duo extended their record to 5-0 (2-0 SEC).
Kentucky will travel to College Station, Texas and Columbia, Mo. this week to take on No. 10 Texas A&M and Missouri.
