LEXINGTON, Ky. – With the winter break in the rear view mirror, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team is set to begin the spring season at the two-day, 54-hole Mobile Bay Intercollegiate in Mobile, Ala., beginning Monday, Feb. 17 and ending Tuesday, Feb. 18. The Mobile Bay Intercollegiate marks the first of five spring tournaments before the SEC Championship and NCAA Tournament.

UK will look to continue its streak of top five finishes after claiming two third place and two fifth place finishes during the four fall tournaments. Senior Ben Stow leads the team with a season scoring average of 72.50. He recorded two top 10 finishes, including a tie for fourth at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic where he shot a 209. Stow’s final round score of 65 (-7) ranks in a tie for second as the best individual round in the Brian Craig era.

Senior Cody Martin and junior David Snyder each rank second on the team with a scoring average of 73.08. Martin saved his best golf for the final tournament of the fall season, the Invitational at The Ocean Course, where he placed fourth. Snyder registered three top 15 finishes in the fall, highlighted by tying for ninth at the Northern Intercollegiate.

The Wildcats will be represented by Stow, Martin, Snyder, senior Stephen Powers and junior Will Bishop this weekend.

“We have been to Naples, Fla., for a training camp and have also been using our brand new state-of-the-art indoor center to work very hard,” Craig said. “We are ready to get started in Mobile and continue on our mission. I like this team’s focus and determination and can’t wait to get started.”

This marks the fifth consecutive year Kentucky will participate in the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate. The Wildcats recorded their best finish at the 2011 event when UK took home second place in the team standings.

Thirty-six holes will be played Monday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET, while the final 18 holes will begin Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. ET with fixed tee times on hole No. 1 and No. 10. The Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course features a par-72, 7,212-yard setup.

Joining the Wildcats in Mobile are Akron, Auburn, Chattanooga, Davidson, Georgia State, Illinois State, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Texas State and Wake Forest.

Following the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate, UK will travel to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, for the Querencia Cabo Collegiate held March 2-4 at the Querencia Golf Club.
