LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky diver Greg Ferrucci was named the Southeastern Conference Diver of the week, the league announced Tuesday. The senior earned the honor for the ninth time in his career.
Ferrucci, who recorded season-high totals to win both diving events in UK’s Senior Day victory over Cincinnati on Saturday, was named SEC Diver of the Week for the second time this season.
The Huntersville, N.C., native posted a 398.25 in the 1-meter event to shatter his previous season-best by more than 20 points. His score is the second-best in the SEC this season. In the 3-meter competition, Ferrucci tallied a 374.33, a season-best by nearly 30 points and a mark that is in the top-10 in the SEC in 2013-14.
Ferrucci’s award is the fifth SEC honor of the season for UK. Freshman Brandon Flynn was named the Freshman of the Week on Oct. 29, while junior swimmer Christina Bechtel, along with Ferrucci, were honored with the season’s first Athlete the Week awards on Oct. 15. Bechtel was honored again on Nov. 27 with Swimmer of the Week accolades.
The Wildcats return to action at the Southeastern Conference Championships, Feb. 18-22 in Athens, Ga. Hosted by the University of Georgia, 42 individual SEC championship will be crowned during the five-day event, along with a men’s and women’s conference champion.
