LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky volleyball team is set to add Ashley Dusek to the 2014 class it was announced by UK head coach Craig Skinner on Friday. Dusek is a libero from East Bernard High School in East Bernard, Texas.
“Ashley is a fantastic athlete with tremendous energy and enthusiasm,” Skinner said. “She’s an elite defender and one of the best passers we have recruited here at Kentucky. We are thrilled to have her in the program. She is a great compliment to our 2014 class which includes Darian (Mack) and Kaz (Brown).”
Dusek is a PrepVolleyball All-America selection and one of the site’s Top 250 Senior Aces and is one of just 13 liberos to ranks among the top 150 players.
A four-time six-rotation starter, she has been tabbed East Bernhard High School’s Most Valuable Player three times in her four-year career. PrepVolleyball has also named her among the Defensive Dandies in both her junior and senior seasons. In 2012 and 2013 she was an All-State selection and the District 28-2A MVP, and as a freshman she earned District 28-2A Newcomer of the Year recognition.
Following her senior season, she was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-Star team and will suit up for the All-Star matches July 9-10, 2014.
Dusek has also been a member of the Houston Skyline Juniors Volleyball Club where she has been the club-wide digs leader for three seasons. Skyline also awarded her with the Defensive Award for the squad following every season from 2011-13. A seven-year club member her Skyline team qualified for the 2013 Nationals 17-Open and has seen action at the USAV Nationals Tournament from 2010-13.
In addition to her volleyball prowess, she is a top tennis player and has qualified for the Regional tournament in both 2012 and 2013.
Also an exceptional student, Dusek is among the top five percent of her class and is a National Honor Society member. She is a four-time Academic All-District team selection, and has been involved with various school activities such as Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Family Career Community Leaders of America, Texas Association for Future Educators and as a class officer.
Dusek joins middle blocker Kaz Brown (Waterloo, Iowa), and outside hitter Darian Mack (Raleigh, N.C.) to the class of 2014.
