LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Arin Gilliland has been called to United States Women’s National U-23 camp, it was announced by U.S. Soccer. This marks the third-straight camp that will feature Gilliland on the roster. She was called up to the roster as a defender, one of seven called into camp.

The camp will be run by new U-23 head coach Steve Swanson, who is the head coach of 2013 College Cup finalist, Virginia. Swanson is coming off a run of coaching multiple USWNT teams including U-16, U-17, U-18, and U-20 rosters.

Swanson called in 24 players, including four players on National Women’s Soccer League teams, with all of the players reporting on Dec. 14 to training in Sunrise, Fla.

Gilliland was one of just seven defenders called into action, joining Natasha Anasi (Duke), Abby Dahlkemper (UCLA), Jaelene Hinkle (Texas Tech), Kassey Kallman (Florida State), Emily Menges (Georgetown) and Emily Sonnett (Virginia).

The camp will be run until Dec. 21, and will be run congruently with the U-20 camp, with the two teams scrimmaging each other during the course of the week.

Gilliland, recently named an All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, collected 34 points, scored a career-high 12 goals, assisted on 10 goals, just one shy of the program record, set a new school record in shots with 100, scored three game-winning goals and was named first team All-Southeastern Conference.

Named a team captain in the spring of 2012, the Lexington, Ky., native took the season by storm, serving as one of Kentucky’s three team leaders in the fall of 2013. Gilliland played over 1,800 minutes on the pitch for the Wildcats, rewriting the record books in a number of categories.
