KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Led by senior Cody Martin’s four-under par, 68, on Monday, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team sits in second place after two rounds of the Invitational at The Ocean Course. The Wildcats are five-over par (581) through two days and find themselves five strokes behind 17th-ranked South Florida.

As a team, UK shot five-over par, 293 on Monday, as the Wildcats dropped a spot in the team standings. Rounding out the top five after South Florida (E) and Kentucky (+5) are South Alabama at 12-over par, Georgia at 17-over par and Notre Dame at 21-over par.

The rest of the team standings are filled out with College of Charleston (+23), Georgia Southern (+24), Florida (+27), Rice (+29), Western Carolina (+29), Charleston Southern (+32), Francis Marion (+35), Michigan (+41) and Michigan State (+43).

“We played real well for most of the day today,” said Kentucky head coach Brian Craig. “We did not finish quite as well as I would have liked, but we are still in this event. Tomorrow will be an excellent test for our team and we are looking forward to the challenge.”

Martin posted his second straight round of under-par golf. On the day, the senior from Union, Ky., registered six birdies en route to a four-under par, 68. Martin will enter the final round in second place at six-under par, 138. He is only two strokes behind the leader, Richard James from South Florida (-8).

“What a great round today by Cody Martin,” Craig said. “His 68 kept us in the tournament.”

Four Wildcats all sit within a stroke from each other. Senior Stephen Powers posted a one-over par, 73 on Tuesday to put him in a tie for 14th at three-over par, 147 through two days. One stroke behind Powers sits senior Ben Stow at four-over par, 148, which places him in a tie for 18th. Stow recorded a four-over par, 76, during his second round. The Salisbury, England, native was on his way to a solid round before a triple bogey on the 16th hole.

Freshman Stephen Stallings remains in the hunt after a four-over par, 76 on the day. Stallings is five-over par (149) overall to put him in a tie for 23rd. Playing as an individual, sophomore Harrison Greenberry turned in a second round score of five-over par, 77, to give him an overall score of six-over par, 150. Greenberry is tied for 26th after two days.

Junior David Snyder rounded out the Wildcat competitors with a seven-over par, 79 on Monday. Snyder recorded three double-bogeys on a tough day for the Somerset, Ky., native. For the tournament, Snyder is tied for 35th at eight-over par, 152.

The tournament concludes Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. ET.

The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort has played host to the 2007 Senior PGA and 2012 PGA Championships and is only the fourth course to host each of the PGA of America’s major championships. Located on the eastern-most end of Kiawah Island, The Ocean Course has more seaside holes than any other course in the Northern Hemisphere.
