NORMAN, Okla. – Two Wildcats are in the top 20 after the first day of the Schooner Fall Classic, as the 22nd-ranked University of Kentucky women’s golf team sits in seventh place at 20-over par, 300.

The first round at Belmar Golf Club proved to be a tough task for all teams and players. Oklahoma State and Arizona State sits atop the standings at 13-over par, 293, while LSU (+15), Florida State (+16), Kent State (+18) and Denver (+18) complete the top five. The teams return to the course Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Rounding out the rest of the team standings were TCU (+21), Texas State (+23), Texas A&M (+23), SMU (+26), Oklahoma (+27), Pepperdine (+29), Georgia (+31) and Texas Tech (+33).

Senior Liz Breed led the way for Kentucky on Saturday with a first round score of two-over par, 72. Breed, who is tied for ninth, is only five shots back from the leader, Jayde Panos of Oklahoma State at three-under par. The Waynesboro, Pa., native notched two birdies, which came on back-to-back holes at No. 9 and No. 10.

Two strokes back from Breed is freshman Haley Mills at four-over par, 74, which places her in a tie for 18th. Mills led the Wildcats with three birdies on the afternoon with two of them coming on the front nine.

Cylia Damerau registered a six-over par, 76, on day one to place her in a tie for 34th. The sophomore finished the day with a solid back nine of one-over par, which included a birdie on the 14th hole.

Sophomore Sarah Harris and freshman Alessandra Walker each recorded first round scores of eight-over par, 78. After one round, Harris and Walker are tied for 47th.

All proceeds from the Schooner Fall Classic will go directly to fund operational costs of OK Kids Korral. OK Kids Korral is an Oklahoma 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization and a project of the Toby Keith Foundation. OK Kids Korral is located at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City and will serve as a cost free home away from home for children battling cancer.
