LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s soccer team will look to extend its season-high seven-match win streak on Friday night as the Wildcats welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks to the UK Soccer Complex for a Friday night showdown at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Kentucky (7-1-1, 1-0-0 SEC) will be looking to pick up their eighth-straight win on the year, something the program hasn’t accomplished since the 2000 season.
The Wildcats opened the Southeastern Conference season with a 1-0 shutout win over Auburn on Friday night as junior Stuart Pope scored the game-winning goal in the 28th minute to catapult UK to 1-0 in the league. The win at Auburn was Kentucky’s first win in an SEC road opener since the 2004 season.
Kayla King recorded her fifth shutout of the season, just one shy of her career-high six a season ago. King was forced to make six saves in the match, and stopped all 12 of Auburn’s shots.
In the first NCAA RPI release of the season, the Arkansas Razorbacks (7-2-0, 0-1-0 SEC) checked in at No. 23. The Razorbacks had a great non-conference season, going 7-1-0 with their only defeat being a double-overtime loss to TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. The Razorbacks lost their SEC opener on Friday night, 2-1, to the Ole Miss Rebels.
Under the direction of second year head coach Colby Hale, the Razorbacks are led in scoring by Ashleigh Ellenwood, who has 11 points (4g, 3a). Cameron Carter has played all 846 minutes in net for the Hogs this season, racking up 23 saves and a 0.97 GAA.
This will be the 19th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Kentucky holding an 11-5-2 edge in the season series. The home team in the series has not lost a match since 2006, and the Wildcats are an undefeated 8-0-1 at home against Arkansas.
Kentucky has also been stellar at home the last two seasons, as the Wildcats have gone 14-1-2 in the last 17 matches played at the UK Soccer Complex.
The Wildcats will conclude the weekend at home on Sunday afternoon against the Georgia Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. ET. The game will be Kentucky’s annual Kick-Cancer Match, where Kentucky will be wearing gold uniforms to support the research of pediatric cancer. The match will be broadcast live on CSS starting at 6:00 p.m. ET. UGA is 8-1-0 on the year at No. 13 in the NCAA RPI, the highest of any SEC team.
