LEXINGTON, Ky. – Fresh off a first-place finish at the “MO”Morial Invitational to kick-off the season, the University of Kentucky women’s golf team returns to the course Sept. 20-22 in Franklin, Tenn., at the Mason Rudolph Championship. The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will be played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course.
After an individual championship at the “MO”, freshman Haley Mills will represent the Wildcat lineup in the No. 1 position for the first time in her career. The lineup is rounded out with sophomore Sarah Harris, senior Liz Breed, freshman Alessandra Walker and sophomore Cylia Damerau.
UK placed three golfers in the top 10 at the “MO”Morial with Mills and Harris taking first and second and Breed tying for seventh. As a team, the Wildcats won the tournament by an astounding 11 strokes at eight-over par. UK posted a final-round score of two-under par, 286, which ranked as the third-lowest round in program history.
“We have had a quick turnaround from our last trip and I know the team is ready to get back on the road,” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “This tournament is one of our toughest this fall and I am confident that our team will play with the same poise and patience that they did last week.”
This marks the second-consecutive season UK will partake in the Mason Rudolph. Last season, Kentucky placed eighth at the prestigious tournament, led by former Wildcat Ashleigh Albrecht, who tied for 23rd.
“The golf course sets up similarly to Traditions Club last weekend, which means that we need to place the ball around the greens, but we can also play aggressively, and that will suit our team well,” Borst said.
Eighteen holes will take place on Friday through Sunday, with fixed tee times on hole one and
10 starting at 9 a.m. ET on Friday and Saturday and 8:30 a.m. ET Sunday. The Vanderbilt Legends Club North Course will feature a par-72, 6,337-yard setup.
The three-day tournament will feature 15 of the top women’s golf programs in the country. Joining the Wildcats are No. 16 Alabama, No. 20 Arizona State, No. 17 Auburn, Baylor, No. 19 Duke, Michigan State, North Carolina, No. 5 North Carolina State, Princeton, Texas, UCLA, Vanderbilt, No. 24 Virginia and No. 11 Wake Forest.
The initial Golfstat rankings were released Wednesday, Sept. 18, with UK checking in at No. 9.
