LEXINGTON, Ky. — In a rematch of the 2012 NCAA Tournament first round matchup in Lexington, the Kentucky men’s soccer team will travel to face Xavier on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
Kentucky (2-1-0) is coming off a 4-0 win over IPFW on Sunday, setting a new program record for shots in a game (35). UK got all four goals in the second half, marking the third-most goals in a half in school history. Sophomore Isak Krogstad led the way with his first two career goals, with UK also getting the first career goals from freshmen Charlie Reymann and Napo Matsoso.
Kentucky has been led by Krogstad, who has two goals and two assists from his midfield post. Senior Brad Doliner has a goal and an assist, with Matsoso and Reymann also adding goals. Freshman Sam Miller has two assist, with Jacob Scearce, Kaelon Fox and Bryan Celis each adding assists. In goal, sophomore Callum Irving has made two starts with shutouts, with senior Jack Van Arsdale starting one game with a goal allowed.
UK has played Xavier 10 times in program history, owning a 6-4 all-time series advantage. In games played in Cincinnati, UK is 4-0, with its last win coming in a 1-0 result in 2009. In the last meeting in 2012, UK faced the Musketeers in the first NCAA Tournament in Lexington. The Wildcats suffered a late goal in the 86th minute for XU to take the win and advance to face eventual NCAA Champion Indiana in Bloomington, Ind.
Xavier (1-3) is coming off a 2-0 win over UC Irvine on Tuesday in Cincinnati. The Musketeers have netted five goals in four games, surrendering seven goals with a 1.68 goals-against average. XU has been led offensively early in the year with two goals and three assists from Matt Walker. Will Walker has a goal, with Jalen Brown and Calum Latham each adding goals. In goal, XU has used two keepers, with Eric Osswald allowing four goals and saving seven in three games, with Vince Shaw saving three shots and allowing three goals in two games.
