LEXINGTON, Ky. – After scoring three goals in Friday night’s 7-0 win over Eastern Kentucky and recording the first hat trick for UK soccer since 2006, freshman Zoe Swift was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.

“Zoe is very good at finding little schemes and little holes to score goals,” UK head coach Jon Lipsitz said. “We knew that she would score a lot of goals here, but part of being a goal-scorer is that you have to have a very short memory. She had a couple last week that she should have finished, and she’ll be the first to tell you that. All we told her was just keep working and it will come.”

Swift capped off a 10-point weekend by tallying another three points in Kentucky’s 2-1 win on the road in Toledo including the game-winning goal in the 57th minute to lift the Wildcats to their second straight win. The game-winning goal was the first of her career.

The Naperville, Ill., native also assisted on Stuart Pope’s go-ahead goal in the 55th minute to record her second-straight multi-point game.

Swift currently leads the Wildcats in most major offensive categories including goals (4), points (10), shots (17), shots on goal (11) and game-winning goals (1).

Stuart Pope Named CollegeSoccerMadness.com SEC Player of the Week

After being moved up from the back line to the attacking center midfielder for Kentucky, junior Stuart Pope made the most of her first weekend on the attack, scoring three goals in UK’s 2-0-0 weekend, and was named the SEC Player of the Week by CollegeSoccerMadness.com, it was announced Tuesday.

Pope scored twice in UK’s win over Eastern Kentucky, including the game-winning goal in the seventh minute on a ball played in by Arin Gilliland.

Pope also tabbed the go-ahead goal in the 55th minute on Sunday in Kentucky’s 2-1 win at Toledo, marking her third goal of the season in just two games as an attacking player.

The Player of the Week honor is Pope’s first-career Player of the Week award of any media outlet.
