LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky rising sophomore Sarah Harris defeated Courtney Chandler 3&2 in the championship round of match play on Friday to win the 2013 Tennessee Women’s Amateur. The tournament marked the 81st annual event of the Tennessee Amateur which was held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course in Franklin, Tenn.

Harris and Chandler made the turn heading to hole No. 10 all squared before Harris won holes 12, 13 and 14 to go three up on Chandler. They went on to tie the next two holes to secure the victory for Harris.

The amateur consisted of a tournament bracket featuring 32 golfers who made the cut into the championship after a 36-hole qualifier. Harris’ 11-over-par qualifying score placed her as the No. 13 overall seed in the round of 32 match play tournament.

The Hermitage, Tenn., native rallied off four consecutive match play victories before facing the No. 2 seeded Chandler in the final.

Harris, a 2013 Southeastern Conference All-SEC Freshman Team selection, helped guide the Wildcats to their third straight NCAA postseason appearance this season, recording their highest finish in the regionals under third-year head coach Golda Johansson Borst, placing 12th.

Harris competed in nine events during the season and was second on the squad with a 75.70 stroke average, which was the fourth-lowest season score in school history. She tallied two top-20 finishes, including Kentucky’s best individual finish of the year, placing second overall at the SEC Championships.
