LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team was selected to compete in the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s National Indoor Championships, it was announced on Wednesday afternoon by the ITA.

The Wildcats will be traveling to Raleigh, N.C. for the opening two rounds of the tournament, where the top seed in the regional will be the No. 13 overall seeded Duke Blue Devils, who will host the opening rounds. The three seed in the bracket will be the Tulane Green Wave, with the No. 4 seed in the Raleigh regional being the Columbia Lions.

This will be the Wildcats first appearance in the ITA National Indoor Championships since the 2009 season, when Kentucky advanced to the regional finals in Atlanta, Ga. UK defeated fellow Southeastern Conference member, Alabama, 4-3, before falling to nationally-ranked Georgia Tech, 4-2 in the regional final.

Four SEC teams were selected as host sites for the 2014 season, including the top overall seed in the draw, the Florida Gators. UF joins Texas A&M, Alabama and Georgia as the four teams that will host from the SEC.

The opening two rounds will take place on January 24-27. One team from each regional will advance on to the Sweet 16 at the National Indoor Championships at the Boar’s Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va., where the University of Virginia Cavilers will serve as the hosts for the championships.
