LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky track and field head coach Edrick Floreal and the 10 Wildcats who qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships continued preparations for the National Title Meet on Friday.
Floreal and his team spoke about how their practices have gone thus far and their expectations heading into the National Championship meet, which begins Wednesday, June 5 and runs through Saturday, June 8.
“I feel pretty confident that we’re moving in the right direction,” Floreal said, “My philosophy is … let’s go out there and do what we’ve been doing all year. If that’s not good enough to be All-American or to win then so be it. We will go back and work again. To tell them they have to go out and do something special at the NCAA Championship meet is not the way to build a team, because they will walk away disappointed with a great performance. I told all of them just do what you’re capable of doing and let God sort out the rest.”
Six Wildcat men qualified for NCAAs, while four women will compete in five events.
Kentucky sends two Outdoor All-Americans from last season to this year’s National Championship. The 10 Wildcats in Eugene have earned eight All-America honors combined throughout each of their careers.
Six of the ten Wildcats that clinched spots in the NCAA Outdoor Championship field will compete in the meet for the first time.
Five Wildcats have earned nine All-America honors in cross country and/or indoor track & field this campaign. UK has also picked up five individual SEC Championships during the 2012-13 season under first-year head coach Edrick Floreal.
