UK Track & Field Set for NCAA East Preliminary Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Kentucky Track and Field Wildcats begin their quest to book trips to the NCAA Championships at the NCAA East Preliminary Championship at Irwin Belk Track on Thursday.
The top 12 finishers in each NCAA Preliminary event will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will take place June 5-8 at Historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Kentucky will send 27 entries (14 men and 13 women) to the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds.
Four Wildcats will have an opportunity to claim spots in the NCAA Championship field as the Discus and 10,000-meter Regional Finals will be contested on Thursday.
The action will begin at 10 a.m. ET with 2013 SEC runner up Andrew Evans and Isiah Kent in the men’s discus.
Rebecca Famurewa, who is the No. 2 seed in the event, will compete in the women’s discus at 3:30 p.m.
Chelsea Oswald will race at 10K for just the second time in her life at 9 p.m. She won her only other race at that distance, the SEC Championships two weeks ago.
The rest of the Thursday events featuring UK competitors will be preliminary heats on the track.
Keith Hayes will kick the prelims off in the 400-meter hurdles first round at 5 p.m.
Allison Peare will take the track for the women’s 1,500 meters at 5:30 p.m. before Matt Hillenbrand, Keffri Neal and Adam Kahleifeh will race in the men’s 1,500 begging at 6 p.m.
Keilah Tyson and Tamyah Pipkin will look to move on to the next round of the 100-meter dash at 6:30 p.m. and Morganne Phillips begins her meet in the first round of the 400 meters at 7:30 p.m.
The NCAA Preliminary Championships will continue on Friday and Saturday. Live results will be available at www.flashresults.com.
